Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 45-55 minutes
Oven Temperature: 150°C
Oven Setting: Fan Forced

2 tbsp honey
Pinch of Chinese five-spice powder
1 cup walnut halves
4 Corella, Red Anjou or Red Sensation pear
12 thin slices of your favourite blue cheese

Recipe alternative: Nuts are optional; this recipe is just as delicious with the pear and cheese on their own.

METHOD
  1. Heat the oven.

  2. Line a rimmed baking sheet with baking paper.

  3. Warm the honey in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it becomes thin and easy to pour.

  4. Stir in the five-spice powder and the walnuts.

  5. Spread the mixture in a single layer onto the baking sheets.

  6. Bake until the nut mixture has darkened in colour, 45 - 55 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through cooking, then remove and set aside to cool.

  7. Wash and slice the pear into 4 slices horizontally, leaving the stem intact.

  8. Place the bottom slice on a plate, place a slice of cheese on top of it, and repeat with the remaining slices of cheese and pear, finishing with the pear slice with the stem.

  9. Add a few nuts to the plate and serve with coffee instead of a cheese platter.
