|
2 tbsp honey
Pinch of Chinese five-spice powder
1 cup walnut halves
4 Corella, Red Anjou or Red Sensation pear
12 thin slices of your favourite blue cheese
Recipe alternative: Nuts are optional; this recipe is just as delicious with the pear and cheese on their own.
METHOD
- Heat the oven.
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with baking paper.
- Warm the honey in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it becomes thin and easy to pour.
- Stir in the five-spice powder and the walnuts.
- Spread the mixture in a single layer onto the baking sheets.
- Bake until the nut mixture has darkened in colour, 45 - 55 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through cooking, then remove and set aside to cool.
- Wash and slice the pear into 4 slices horizontally, leaving the stem intact.
- Place the bottom slice on a plate, place a slice of cheese on top of it, and repeat with the remaining slices of cheese and pear, finishing with the pear slice with the stem.
- Add a few nuts to the plate and serve with coffee instead of a cheese platter.
